Hit the Road Jack!

Ooohhh feel that chill and hear that tap tap tap of that slanting rain on your windows? Yep, winter is definitely here. And with the shortest day just behind us, it’s time to discuss one of winter’s key saviours – the humble scarf! The scarf is like a supportive friend – protecting our vulnerable necks from the cold spindly fingers of Jack Frost. Brrr…stay away Jack! I own many varieties of scarves and recently had to offload some to my sister as my scarf drawer was overflowing! Personally, I feel that you do need a variety of scarves for different occasions & forecasts, and hopefully I’ve covered enough options to tickle your fancy.

There’s nothing better than walking out into icy conditions while wearing a snuggly protective shield around your neck. Big and chunky scarves are a must-have during any winter. Words like cable-knit, cashmere and wool spring to mind when thinking about the cosier, more functional scarves out there. These three options below all make me warm by just looking at them! Yummy! I love the soft pastel tones of the Sportsgirl scarf, while the Marcs option looks like it would be the most comfortable thing ever. The Country Road scarf would go with many outfits and could even be worn by both you and your boyfriend – so versatile!

Winter is generally filled with grey skies, moody clouds and gloomy horizons, so what better way to brighten up these days than with a colourful scarf! Akin to wearing bright colours on your nails during a dark & dull day, colourful scarves help to bring that pop of colour and life into an otherwise dreary season. Especially when your winter wardrobe tends to consist of black or dark coloured clothing, it’s not hard to work these bright beauties into your outfits! These two scarves from Tolani are the perfect winter options; they’d look stunning with your black duffle jacket plus they’d help you to stand out in a monochromatic crowd. I like the different ways that these scarves are tied too – loving the variety! Those of you with a sharp eye will recognise the model too!

Looped scarves are becoming more and more common in stores – so handy for those who are prone to losing things, these babies would never deviously slip away from your neck. Perfect also for those of us who live in blustery areas, these scarves won’t be escaping on a gust of wind anytime soon! I love the way that you can easily change the look of these scarves without having to take them off – pull it a little down here and you have a long scarf….even up the lengths there and you have two scarf coils! This shopbop scarf is even made of cashmere, so it’d be stable AND soft as a kitten. Perfect!

Don’t know what a snood is? I bet you do but you don’t even realise…yes, you’re THAT clever. A snood is a combination of a scarf and a hood and is loved by many worldwide! Great for wearing with hoodless jacket, you can use your snood for both warmth and protection from the splatters of a light wintery shower. Plus you’ll look super cool too. I love it how these two snoods below are so different but they’d both work well with many outfits. Clever designs there.

So no matter which type of scarf you own, make sure it helps to keep you warm this winter, as those icy chills down the back of the neck are never ideal!

Happy winter darlings.

Revolving My Heart

There are some websites that you stumble upon that grab your attention immediately, enticing you to spend hours perusing the different pages and drooling over the pretty images. Revolve Clothing is one of these sites. I somehow found myself on this site today and now I can't concentrate on anything else. While looking for items for my next post (which you'll see soon), I saw this picture under the Accessories tab and instantly fell in love. I want to look just like this girl! I love the clever combination of the clothing that she's wearing - my friends and I agreed that we want to dry hump every item she has on! In particular the shoes, the belt and the hair (both style and colour). Personally, I'm infatuated with the belt - pity I can't afford US$136 for a belt, even with free shipping. Sigh. Luckily dreams are free.

Enter this site at your peril - I'm not responsible for any crazy lusting or hysterical notions that you may have while visiting it!

New FQ for You!

Sooooo, FQ have brought out their new magazine for occassions, aptly named Fashion Quarterly Occasions. This mag highlights what to wear for those fancy schmancy events - such as weddings, black tie, cocktail parties and the races. I think that this magazine is more expensive than the standard FQ, so hopefully it has more content too. You'd think they'd bring this out in spring / summer when these events are more frequent (i.e. summer weddings, January races, Christmas parties) but I'm sure they have their reasons why it's published in winter...let me know what you think of it if you buy it. I'm such a sucker for a good party frock so I'm sure I'd love it!

Hope you're all having a magnificent Monday!

Password Please...

So in the long weekend I stumbled over a great find in Greytown - a charming boutique store called password please... I'm used to the standard fancy-pants, slightly older target market stores in this town, so when I spotted this beauty I was very excite! The store is set out really well, with funky clothes for guys and gals, beautiful scarves, amazing satchels, GG-esque headbands and pretty cushions. I got a pretty pink silk scarf with dove grey polka dots, but wanted to buy so much more! I can't wait to visit it again next time I'm on Main St!

Here are some pics from the store...

Ohh baby I love that rose jersey!

The owner of the store (Rosie?) was so sweet and great to chat to, so you should definitely pay her and the store a visit!

Nice one!

Blog of the Month!

OMFG - I got sent a link to the best blog ever yesterday (thanks Miss Sparkling Wilderness)! The Man Repeller is a blog which focuses on all the clothes that women love, yet men hate. Think harem pants, jumpsuits, boyfriend jeans etc. I thought once about doing a post on this theme, but it wouldn't have been anywhere as good as this amazing blog. Leandra Medine is so witty and hilarious, that I'm in fits of giggles whenever I read her posts.

Check out some of the man repelling-items below from her site...

OMG, how hot is that nail colour! I want!!! Similar to this maybe?

Turban tirade!

Hoochie sweats and furry coat!

Have a fab long weekend!

Coat-a Rica!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, it has been a busy fortnight! Last week I was in Queenstown and while I was there I managed to do some research for this post! Winter is officially here and you know what that means – cold…rain…southerlies…boo. But from an optimistic fashionista’s point of view this means new coats – trench…duffle…puffer…yay! Below are some must-have coats for this season! Yippee! Something to look forward to!

A classic coat throughout all seasons is the trench – it can be lightweight or heavy, it can be worn in both corporate and casual environments, and it’s so flattering! My favourite trench coats come from Karen Walker & Burberry. These two brands know how to make this classic coat both modern and simple. My ideal trench coat has these features – tan material, lapels, a classic belt, cuff detailing on the wrists, a v-neck and it must sit just above the knee. Perfect!

Another staple is the duffle coat; more casual than the trench but no less important. The duffle coat is the perfect friend to get you from A to B on those icily cold and wet days. It’s only the start of winter and my tailor-made duffle coat has been used on numerous occasions. Warm, snug, stylish and practical, a duffle coat will get you places! This version from Witchery is ideal – with pockets and a hood, what else does this baby need?

The precious puffer jacket…I had one of these puppies in Queenstown and I was so happy that I did. Imagine being in the coldest weather ever, with chilly winds trying to sneak under your many winter layers and icy drops off rain harassing you from above, while you walk by in bliss, feeling amazingly content and comfortable - this is what it is like to wear a puffer. Like a big sleeping bag in the form of a jacket, puffers are made from down & feathers and are a lifesaver in cold climates. I’m looking at upgrading to a Huffer puffer this winter as they’re one of the best on the market - with a hood, trendy detailing and 100% down features. Mmm makes me warm just thinking about one!

The cape is holding quite a powerful position in the fashion world at the moment and they’re so easy to find in stores around town. This Ruby Angels Coat is a pretty popular one as I’ve seen many people wearing this while I’ve been out and about. In three great styles – black and white spots, pink and dove grey, it’s no wonder that this coat is such a hit! Capetastic!

Not one to shy away from non-monochromatic clothing, I think that a coloured jacket is a must! Even a patterned (read: non-black) jacket is handy. Sometimes you need something to brighten up your day (and the day of those around you). I’m wearing lilac-coloured tights today for that very reason! This jacket below from Twenty-Seven Names isn’t so wildy bright that you need sunnies to look at it, but it will add just a touch of colour and je ne sais quoi to your life. Plus this coat is a blazer, which is oh so hot right now! C’est magnifique!

Ok so this jacket isn’t really a staple or a must-have, but it’s fun and it’s my blog and I can put whatever I want in (plus I can cry if I want to). Cry with joy maybe because this jacket is so CUTE! I’m going through quite a phase at the moment…I have a big crush on velvet. It looks so different, feels so amazing and I found so many items made from velvet in Lara Parker the other day, that I’m sure it’s the next big thing. This jacket is very feminine and the colour is so in right now…how can you not love this coat? Sigh.

So there you have it, no need to fret about winter, but there is a need to get excited about coats! Yay, shopping! I'm heading over to a chic vineyard town for the long weekend...now which coats should I take?

Enjoy the second day of winter everyone!
