You Fascinate Me!

With the races coming up this weekend, there is a lot of talk about what people are going to wear, and most importantly, what they’re going to wear on their heads. Fascinators allow you to go over the top & all out, without looking like a clown. They’re a great way to lose your fashion inhibitions and dress more outrageously than you normally would. I have a random variety of fascinators for you to look over; some are quite out there, while others are less in-your-face.

This ‘Viola’ fascinator is quite fun and racer-y. It only has a few pieces to it, but it’s still a stunning accessory and I like the fact that it has two block colours in it. You’d have to be careful with this one though, to make sure that you didn’t take someone’s eye out or knock it off your head while walking through a doorway!

The ‘Freya’ fascinator would be a good option if you were new to adorning your head with wacky objects, plus it would go with every outfit as it’s black. The flower is quite feminine, while the veil gives an element of mystique. Nice.

This next one is handy, as it’s quite stunning without being too showy. I like the looped pieces of material combined with the feathers and I think that the colour combination is very elegant. I also like how it’s a bit different as you wear it on the side of your head, rather than in the middle.

Unlike the options above, this baby is loud and proud! I love the big flower, plus the wild feathers arching around the piece like rays from the sun. I rate the fact that it’s a headband rather than a clip attachment, as it would be more comfortable to wear. I also like the model’s facials, she’s ready for some race day frolicking that’s for sure!

Yes eager eyes, I know that this ISN’T a fascinator, but it’s so delightful that I couldn’t NOT put it in my fascinator post. This is a mini-top hat, or a mini-topper if you will (cutest name ever, I know)! I love the androgynous style that these mini-toppers create, plus I really like how it’s sneakily pretending to be a fascinator with the feathers & veil. It’s quite Broadway musical meets burlesque dancer – hot.

Now like a true girl, I have no idea what dress I’m wearing to the races yet, but I have picked out my race day fascinator. And if you’re lucky, I may even show you pictures next week of the outfits that my race-day goers & I wear.
I hope wherever you are you have some races to look forward to! Don’t forget, you can be as daring as you want with fascinators, that’s the whole point of them. And c’mon, it’s race day, it’d be RUDE not to.

I Spy With My Little Eye

Ahhh summer...bronzed bodies, sexy swimwear, hot havianas and of course, stylish sunnies. I’m always amazed (and somewhat impressed) about how sunglasses can change a whole person’s look and style in a matter of seconds. Some people look elegant & classy with their big Jackie O frames, while others look trendy & street with their structured square lenses. I had SO MUCH fun finding a variety of sunnies for this post, and frankly I’m not doing the selections justice at all. There are just so many sunglasses to choose from at the moment, with a wide variation of styles, colours, shapes and even prices. Yesterday I caught up with my girls for F&C’s on the beach (summer in a nutshell) and my darling little S had a stunning pair of trendy shades that she’d picked up for only $20! Bargain!

I’ve admired Karen Walker’s eyewear range for a while, the shapes are so unique and I love the way they’re modelled each season (look at this chick’s fangs, she’s so up with the vampire-trend isn’t she)! This ‘Deep Freeze’ style is in a sexy torte colour and would suit most face shapes I imagine. As an aside, is it me or does the model remind you of Whitney Port? For those of you who don’t know Whitney, shame on you (slash you obviously have a social life haha)!

Ksubi is another brand that cranks out amazing shades each summer and this season is no different. This pair is from the Bookclub 2010 range and they’re super stylish – I’m loving the tortoiseshell colour too (you’ll see this colour theme throughout the post, it wasn’t on purpose, promise)! Again, I’m loving the lookbook campaign used here, so originale!

These circular friends are the ‘Bogangles’ style from Le Specs, another great sunglass manufacturer. They’re circular, stripey and oh so quirky! Very Gaga-esque, she’d rock these puppies for sure!

You’d have to be living under a rock not to have heard of Ray-Ban, these sunnies are everywhere! This wayfarer style is classic Ray-Ban, however this pattern is not so much. From the Rare Prints range, the ‘Flowers’ pattern would brighten up an already sunny sunny day. They remind me of hippies too, maybe because of the pattern and colour.

Ohhhh these last ones I almost don’t want to share with you as I want them all to myself. I ADORE these sunnies, I LONG FOR these sunnies, I really really really want to OWN these sunnies. Although I may never take them off if I did. Not even to shower. Or to sleep. Let me introduce them to you - Von Zipper Manchu sunnies, meet my faithful blog readers; readers, meet my dream sunglasses. These sunnies have everything - stylishness, classiness, edginess, amazingness. Obsessed much? Yes, yes I am.

So what type of sunglasses are you rocking this summer? Are you drooling after a certain pair at the moment, or is that just me?

You Can Leave Your Hat On

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you managed to sneak away and get some sun! I managed to get a week’s worth of rays up north, so relaxing! Speaking of sun, I hope you all protected your wee heads with a stylish sun hat...ohhh and fancy that, there are some pretty hat options below! Sun hats have definitely upped their game over the past decade, maybe due to the fact that there’s more emphasis on sun protection, or maybe because fashion houses are expanding their lines from clothing to accessories etc as well.

As normal, I have two options for you to peruse over – the classic option and the more unique option. Let’s start with le classique! This Huffer hat is one that I have drooled over in Area 51 for a while now as it’s so simple & stunning, plus it suits both girls and guys. It looks great at the beach or while bopping around in town, plus it comes in a variety of colours. Next, the Malindi hat is a classic beach beauty and provides you with great sun coverage! It would look stunning with oversized black sunnies, gold jewellery and a one piece – tres tres chic mademoiselle! Trilby hats are all the rage and it’s easy to see why, they look great on a variety of people, they can be dressed up or down and similar to the Huffer hat, they suit both genders. The Reiss Medoc hat seems almost dressy to me, I can picture an indie corporate guy pulling this hat off with a summer suit. Hot.

Some of you will recognise this first hat from Karen Walker’s runway models. I don’t know how practical this hat would be, but it would definitely get you noticed! Just don’t walk under low ceilings while wearing this! The bowler hat seems quite alternative to me, which I like. I have a close friend who pulls off the bowler hat with many different outfits, if only we could all be as stylish as Miss Young.

Lots of stores are stocking summer hats at the moment – check out Glassons and Red Current especially for some great deals! I recently purchased a terracotta wide-brimmed sun hat and it has already served me well on several occasions! Also, a great way to jazz up your hats (or alter their look slightly) is to tie a pretty scarf around them.

What style hat have you guys been wearing this summer? Are you a classic wide brimmed hat kinda girl, or do you rock the bowler hat?
